Sculptures by ROBERT PARKER
AUGUST - SEPTEMBER, 2022
KIPNZ X DOOG (installation at DOOG GOODS)
KIPNZ x DOOG is pleased to present THREEHEADS: REDHEAD WHITEHEAD BLUEHEAD, an installation of wood sculptures by Robert Parker, member of New York City’s Lower East Side art scene from 1979-2010, and current inhabitant of Walton, New York.
Born in Jersey City in 1945 (a “Twin B”), Parker was raised in Guelph, Ontario and received a B.A. from Waterloo University. After moving to New York City in 1979, Parker was part of the art community that was being forged in the East Village and Lower East Side. A metal worker, Parker was part of what became known in the 1980s as the Rivington School, the denizens of which were involved in welding, forging, performance and street painting. Parker also became a founding member of ABC No RIO, Storefront for Art and Architecture, and Suckers Hole on 13th Street.
After relocating to Walton in 2010, Parker began carving in wood. Each sculpture is a means of addressing perennial questions about plane, line, mass and negative space. With their animal form they give expression to the duality of energy and geometry in nature.
Parker has shown his work in collective and solo exhibitions in New York, the wider U.S., and internationally.
